Opening the PTV.

  1. Make sure the high pressure discharge valve is open and the pressure gauge reads zero. Open the air-bleed valve on the top of the cap.
  2. Open the breech-lock by rotating the cap with the hydraulic ram. The mating parts of the breech-lock should be completely disengaged.
  3. Remove the threaded pin from the hydraulic closer, retract the ram, and position the closer for removing the cap.
  4. Attach the crane hook and slowly lift the cap with the crane until a “woosh” sound indicates that the o-ring seal is broken. Lift the cap up until it will clear all obstacles.
  5. Move the crane along the J-track until the cap is directly over its storage cradle. Lower the cap onto the cradle.
  6. When the PTV operations are complete then remove the aluminum ingots and pump all of the water out of the PTV.
