Steps to invoke the evacuate protocol.

2 Weeks Prior:
Check to see if the conference rooms 111, 203, and 425 are scheduled to be used during the time of the test: After checking if the rooms are unreserved during the time of test, call Su Tipple to have her block out that time so that no one can reserve the rooms at the time of the proposed test.

Contact the following people to see if any maintenance is scheduled for the date and time of the test:

After getting clearance on maintenance, notify Environmental Health & Safety (Scott Nelson sdnpey@uw.edu) proposing a schedule for test. The email must include the date, time, duration, and maximum pressure.

1 Week Prior:
Send out notification email to:

The email must include the date, time, duration of the test, and a reminder that only personnel directly involved in the test are permitted in the building during the Evacuate Protocol.

Signs must be placed on all exterior doors of the Ocean Sciences Building. The sign must include “BUILDING CLOSURE” in bold type along with date, time, and contact information (ie., Aaron Morello, 206-221-6078, aaronm@uw.edu).

Before Starting:
All signs that were placed on the exterior doors must be changed. New signs must state in bold type: “Pressure test in progress. No admittance to building” along with date, time, and phone number (206-221-6078) of the Pressure Vessel room.

A building-wide PA announcement must be made that briefly describes the planned operation. An example of such a PA announcement might be

Attention please. The pressure vessel will be in operation for the next 90 minutes. The maximum pressure will be 10000 psi. As the potential risk is higher than normal, evacuation of the building is required. For information about potential hazards, please call the operator in room 140 at 221-6708.

In addition to the PA notice, illuminated signs must be turned on (High Pressure: Evacuate Building.).

After Test:
Remove all door signs and turn off the illuminated signs. Make a PA announcement that the test has been completed.
