The SBE41 installed on the JES APEXs consumes approximately 8 J per CTD sample and 0.375 J per P-only sample. A profile to 800 dbar has 48 CTD samples, one P-only sample every 6 seconds during the ascent, and one P-only sample every hour during the drift-segment of the mission cycle beginning 6 hours after descent. For 7-day drift-segments there are 162 P-only samples and for ascents requiring 104 s (see Section 3) there are 1668 P-only samples for a total of 1830 P-only samples. The energy consumed by the CTD is 0.384 kJ per profile for CTD samples and 0.686 kJ for P-only measurements for a total of 1.07 kJ per profile.
