The PTV must pass an annual visual inspection that includes a dye penetrant (PT) examination and an annual hydrostatic test to 12.5 kpsi. The purpose of the visual inspection is to detect any indications of cracks in the walls and cap of the PTV. A PT exam of the breech-lock threads uses a spray-on film of powder to wick dye out of any cracks that might exist. This exam must be conducted by a Level II inspector and witnessed by a Hartford Steam Boiler representative (presently, Norm Strasser). The current vendor is:
