M: The float is overdue for its most recent profile.
D: The float is presumed dead.

Notes:

  1. Floats 284, 285, 286, & 287 were purchased from Webb Research Corporation by the Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute (JAERI) and deployed in the Japan/East Sea by the Russian Far East Regional Hydrometeorological Research Institute (FERHRI). At FERHRI's request, UW has agreed to manage data processing and web generation for these floats.

  2. No WMO identifier is listed for floats 284, 285, 286, & 287 because profiles from these floats can not be posted to GTS as they are not owned by US groups.

  3. Float 213 was once deployed in the North Atlantic Ocean as float 091. After 14 months of N. Atlantic operation it was recovered from near-shore Bahamian waters for engineering purposes. After laboratory examinations were complete the float was refurbished, equipped with a Sea-Bird SBE-41 CTD, and redeployed in the Japan/East Sea.

  4. Floats 231 and 260 were intercepted at sea by Japanese fishermen and have subsequently been recovered. After being refurbished they will eventually be redeployed.
